Tim Newell is Director of Financial Products for Tesla, Inc., where he leads the development of consumer financial products and technology to support Tesla’s mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Prior to Tesla’s acquisition of SolarCity, Mr. Newell was the Vice President for Financial Products of SolarCity. Mr. Newell joined SolarCity’s management team in December 2013 following SolarCity’s acquisition of Common Assets, a financial technology company where Mr. Newell had been founder and CEO.

Before founding Common Assets, Mr. Newell served in management roles for USRG, a private equity firm focused on investments in advanced energy companies; the clean technology affiliate fund of venture capital firm DFJ; E*Offering, a technology-based investment bank launched by E*Trade; and investment banking firm Robertson Stephens. Prior to his investment career, Mr. Newell served in a number of positions in the U.S. government, primarily as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy; and Staff Director for U.S. Representative Norman Mineta.
